It was founded in 2017 in New York City by Michele Casadei Massari along with Alberto Ghezzi.^[1] It serves typical food from the Italian city ofBologna located in the area ofEmilia Romagna.^[2] The name "Lucciola" meansfirefly, and was inspired byPasolini article.^[3]

Lucciola is the second restaurant by Michele Casadei Massari, withPiccolo Cafe being the first one.^[4] It pays homage toFesta di Laurea directorPupi Avati.^[5] Lucciola focuses on Emilia Romagna cuisine, wines, and traditional Italian desserts such asTortellini,Albana di Romagna,Tiramisu, andPasta al pomodoro.^[6]
