Lucas Oliveira Rosa (born 3 April 2000) is a Brazilian professionalfootballer who plays as adefender for Dutch clubAjax. Mainly aright-back, he has been deployed as a right wing-back and a left-back on occasion.[1]
Internationally, Lucas played for his native Brazil atunder-17 level.
Born inRibeirão Preto, São Paulo, Lucas played for local Vale Sports,Taubaté andPalmeiras' youth categories.[2]
In April 2018, Lucas moved to Italy to joinJuventus, initially playing for their Primavera (under-19) squad.[3] He was promoted to theJuventus U23 team (later renamed Juventus Next Gen) competing inSerie C. He made his professional debut for the U23s on 30 March 2019, coming on as a second-half substitute againstPistoiese.[4] Over three seasons, Rosa made 31 appearances for Juventus U23 in Serie C.[5] He was also part of the squad that won theCoppa Italia Serie C in the2019–20 season.
On 27 May 2021, Rosa signed a four-year contract with Spanish clubReal Valladolid, initially assigned to the reserve team,Real Valladolid Promesas, playing in thePrimera Federación.[6] He was a regular starter for the B team during the2021–22 season, making 25 appearances and scoring his first professional goal againstCalahorra on 16 April 2022.[5][7]
Rosa was promoted to the Real Valladolid first team for the2022–23 season. He made his senior debut for the club on 19 October 2022, starting in a 4–1La Liga defeat againstCelta de Vigo.[7] He made hisCopa del Rey debut on 12 November againstBarbadás.[7] He featured regularly throughout the season, making 17 La Liga appearances and 3 Copa del Rey appearances as Valladolid suffered relegation.[5] In the2023–24 season, Rosa was a key player inSegunda División, making 35 league appearances and scoring once as the team achieved immediate promotion back to La Liga.[5] He continued as a regular starter in La Liga during the first half of the2024–25 season, making 21 league appearances before his transfer.[5] In total, he played 80 times for the Real Valladolid first team, scoring once.[5]
On 4 February 2025, Rosa returned to the Netherlands, joiningEredivisie sideAjax on a contract until 30 June 2029.[8] He made his debut for the club on 13 February 2025, starting in a 2–0 away victory againstUnion Saint-Gilloise in theUEFA Europa League knockout round play-offs.[9] He subsequently made appearances in both the Eredivisie and the Europa League, including a notable performance againstPSV Eindhoven on 30 March.[5][10]
Lucas was born in Brazil, and is of Italian descent. As he was grantedItalian citizenship, Lucas Rosa is also eligible to be called up to theItaly national team.[11] Lucas representedBrazil at under-17 level during the preparation for the2017 South American U-17 Championship.
