Lords of Padua

TheLords ofPadua ruled the city from 1308 until 1405. Thecommune of Padua became a hereditary one-man lordship (signoria) with the election ofJacopo I da Carrara ascapitano del popolo in 1308. His descendants, theCarraresi, ruled the city and its vicinity, with short interruptions, until they were defeated by theRepublic of Venice in theWar of Padua, which resulted in the annexation of the city by Venice.
