Lophiodontidae is a family of browsing,herbivorous,mammals in thePerissodactyla suborderAncylopoda that show long, curved and cleftclaws.[citation needed] They lived inSouthern Europe during theEocene epoch. Previously thought to be related totapirs, it is now thought that they were most likely related to earlychalicotheres, although they are distinct from that group.[1]
