Lloyd LaCuesta (born inHonolulu, Hawaii) is an American journalist. He was most recently theSouth Baybureau chief for theSan Francisco Bay Area TV stationKTVU's news division, having worked at KTVU for 35 years. He retired from the position as of June 2012.[1] LaCuesta is ofFilipino ancestry.[2][3]
LaCuesta served in the Army as a broadcast journalist for theAmerican Forces Korea Network. He attendedCalifornia State University, Los Angeles andSan Jose State University (SJSU), earning a B.A. in journalism and political science. He won theSigma Delta Chi Award for reporting while at SJSU. He received an M.A. in journalism fromUniversity of California, Los Angeles. He worked as a writer for KNX/CBS Radio inLos Angeles and theLos Angeles Herald Examiner, and as a producer for KABC-TV in Los Angeles andKGO-TV in San Francisco. He started work atOakland based television station KTVU in 1976. He has taught journalism at SJSU andMenlo College.[4]
LaCuesta has won sixEmmy Awards from theNational Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. He received a lifetime achievement award from theAsian American Journalists Association (AAJA) in 2004[citation needed]. He was a president of the AAJA,[5] and is the director of the AAJA's Study Tours Program. He was the first president ofUnity Journalists of Color.[6]
