Littoral South Asia

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
South Asian subregion bordering the Indian Ocean
This article mayrequirecleanup to meet Wikipedia'squality standards. The specific problem is:Both the text and the thinking behind it are confusing and opaque: does this include the mainland (as suggested in the passage that the area is contested between China and India)? Entire nations (that are overwhelmingly on the mainland) are listed as part of the area. The map doesn’t help clarify any of this, either. Please helpimprove this article if you can.(April 2025) (Learn how and when to remove this message)

Littoral South Asia orMaritime South Asia is the region of theIndian subcontinent which borders theIndian Ocean. It includes theSouth Asian republics ofBangladesh,India, andPakistan, as well as theSouth Asian island countries of theMaldives andSri Lanka. It is contested between China and India as a part of what is sometimes referred to as an alleged "String of Pearls" strategy by China to contain India.[1][2][3] This has resulted in an increasing maritime collaboration between the United States and India.[4]

The effects of climate change, such as flooding, are also expected to cause hundreds of millions of dollars of damage per year to coastal cities and potentially create tens of millions ofclimate migrants.[5]
