Since the establishment of the office of president in 1993, thehead of state ofEritrea has beenIsaias Afwerki. The president is also thehead of government of Eritrea, as well ascommander-in-chief of theEritrean Defence Forces.
As of 2021, there are no term limits for the president in theConstitution of Eritrea.[2]
The list also includes the secretary-general of the Provisional Government of Eritrea, who acted as head of state between 1991 and 1993, before the proclamation of independence.
