Following is a list of allArticle IIIUnited States federal judges appointed byPresidentAndrew Johnson during his presidency.[1] Johnson appointed only 9 Article III federal judges during his presidency, all toUnited States district courts. Andrew Johnson is one of only four presidents[2] who did not have an opportunity to appoint a judge to serve on theSupreme Court. In April 1866 he nominatedHenry Stanbery to fill the vacancy left with the death ofJohn Catron, but the Republican Congress eliminated the seat with the passage of theJudicial Circuits Act. One of Johnson's district court appointees,Samuel Blatchford, would later be appointed to the Supreme Court byChester A. Arthur.

Johnson appointed 1 judge to theUnited States Court of Claims, anArticle I tribunal.
