Anenvironmental ministry is a national or subnationalgovernment agency politically responsible for the environment and/or natural resources. Various other names are commonly used to identify such agencies, such asMinistry of the Environment,Department of the Environment,Department of Environmental Protection,Department of Natural Resources orMinistry for the Ecological Transition. Such agencies typically address environmental concerns such as the maintenance ofenvironmental quality,nature preserves, thesustained use ofnatural resources, and prevention ofpollution orcontamination of thenatural environment. Sometimes these tasks are undertaken by other agencies, such as ministries of agriculture or of transport.
