A bilateralfree trade agreement is between two sides, where each side could be a country (or othercustoms territory), atrade bloc or an informal group of countries, and creates afree trade area.

Note that everycustoms union,common market,economic union,customs and monetary union andeconomic and monetary union is also a free trade area, and there are several fullymultilateral free trade agreements not included below.
