Theambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire is the official representative of thepresident and thegovernment of the Russian Federation to thepresident and thegovernment of Ivory Coast.[1][2][3]
The Russian ambassador and his staff work at large in theEmbassy of Russia inAbidjan.[4] The post of Russian ambassador to Ivory Coast is currently held byAleksei Saltykov [ru], incumbent since 14 July 2022.[5] With the closure of the embassy inOuagadougou in neighbouringBurkina Faso in 1992, the ambassador to Ivory Coast was givendual accreditation as theambassador to Burkina Faso, until the reopening of the embassy in Ouagadougou in 2023 and the appointment of an ambassador to Burkina Faso the following year.[4]
Diplomatic relations between theSoviet Union and Ivory Coast were established on 18 February 1967. The first ambassador,Sergey Petrov [ru], was appointed on 7 September 1967 and presented his credentials on 13 November 1967.[1] At the behest of the Ivorian government, diplomatic relations were severed in 1969 and the ambassadors were withdrawn.[6] Diplomatic relations were restored on 21 August 1986, andBoris Minakov was appointed as ambassador.[2] With thedissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991 the incumbent Soviet ambassador,Mikhail Mayorov [ru], continued as representative of the Russian Federation until 1995. With the closure of the embassy ofOuagadougou in Burkina Faso in 1992, the ambassador to Ivory Coast was also accredited as thenon-residentambassador to Burkina Faso, until the reopening of the embassy in Burkina Faso in 2023 and the appointment of an ambassador in 2024.[1][7][8]
