The Batman is a 2022 Americansuperhero film based on theDC Comics characterBatman. Directed byMatt Reeves from a screenplay he wrote withPeter Craig, it is areboot of theBatman film franchise produced byDC Films.Robert Pattinson stars as Bruce Wayne / Batman alongsideZoë Kravitz,Paul Dano,Jeffrey Wright,John Turturro,Peter Sarsgaard,Andy Serkis, andColin Farrell.[1] The film sees Batman, in his second year fighting crime inGotham City,[2] uncover corruption with ties to his own family while pursuing theRiddler (Dano),[1] a mysterious serial killer targeting the city's elite.[3]

The Batman premiered at theLincoln Center inManhattan on March 1, 2022,[4] and was theatrically released on March 4.[5] Produced on a budget of $185–200 million,[6][7]The Batman grossed $770.9 million,[8] finishing its theatrical run as theseventh-highest-grossing film of 2022.[9] On thereview aggregator websiteRotten Tomatoes, the film holds an approval rating of 85% based on 527 reviews.[10]

The Batman garnered awards and nominations in various categories with particular recognition for its acting, make-up, musical score, production design, and visual effects. It received three nominations at the95th Academy Awards, includingBest Visual Effects. At the76th British Academy Film Awards, the film was nominated forBest Cinematography,Best Production Design,Best Makeup and Hair, andBest Special Visual Effects. It received three nominations at the28th Critics' Choice Awards. ComposerMichael Giacchino received a nomination forBest Score Soundtrack for Visual Media at theGrammy Awards'65th ceremony. The film won two of twelve nominations at the50th Anniversary Saturn Awards.
