Paul Musselwhite
Paul Musselwhite was 43 years old on his last appearance forYork City in 2012, making him the oldest player to play for the club.

York City Football Club is a professionalassociation football club based inYork, North Yorkshire, England. Formed in May 1922, the club failed to beelected tothe Football League for the 1922–23 season, but succeeded in gaining admission to theMidland League.[1] After seven seasons of competing in the Midland League, the club was elected to play in the Football League ahead of1929–30.[2] After 75 years of Football League membership, York wererelegated to theFootball Conference in 2004.[3] This is where the club remained for eight years beforepromotion back to the Football League was achieved with victory in the2012 Conference Premier play-off final.[4] However, York were relegated to theNational League four years later.[5]

The club'sfirst team have competed in numerous competitions, and all players who have played between 1 and 24 first-team matches, either as a member of the starting eleven or as asubstitute, are listed below. Each player's details include the duration of his York career, his typicalplaying position while with the club, and the number of matches played and goals scored in domestic league matches and in all senior competitive matches. Where applicable, the list also includes the national team for which the player was selected, and the number of seniorinternational caps he won.

As of the date specified above, more than 500 players had completed their York career before reaching the 25-match milestone. Many of these players spent only a short period of their careers at York before seeking opportunities in other teams. Players who have gone on to experience football in the English top tier includeChris Iwelumo, when playing forWolverhampton Wanderers,[6] andNeil Warnock, whenmanagingNotts County,Sheffield United,Queens Park Rangers andCrystal Palace.[7] At international level, Iwelumo went on to representScotland[8] andLeo Bertos became the first former York player to represent his country at aFIFA World Cup when appearing forNew Zealand at the2010 tournament.[9][10] Four players with under 25 appearances went on to manage the club; these wereJock Collier,Tom Mitchell,Viv Busby andSteve Torpey.[11]

Many players spent brief periods with York onloan from other clubs. Some were young players gaining experience;Mike Stowell went on to play more than 400 matches for Wolverhampton Wanderers[12] andMike Cook played for theCambridge United team that wonpromotion in the1990 Fourth Division play-offs.[13] Other loanees had an established career but were not needed by their owning club;Steve Davis scored on his debut for York,[14] whileCourtney Pitt came on as a substitute in the2010 Conference Premier play-off final.[15]

As of the date above, 13 players have left the club with 24 career appearances;Bobby Warrender,Fred Marlow,Brad Halliday,Bradley Fewster, Tom Mitchell,John Hammerton,Liam George,Jamie Price,Nick Pope, Richard Tindale,Phil Taylor,Byron Webster andThierry Latty-Fairweather. The list includes 15 players who are still contracted to the club, and so can add to their totals.

Total appearances and goals comprise those in the Midland League, Football League (includingplay-offs), Football Conference/National League (including play-offs),FA Cup,Football League Third Division North Cup,Football League Cup,Associate Members' Cup/Football League Trophy,FA Trophy andConference Cup/Conference League Cup. Matches in wartime competitions are excluded.[16]
International selection
Countries are listed only for players who have been selected for international football. Only the highest level of international competition is given, except where a player competed for more than one country, in which case the highest level reached for each country is shown.

Leo Bertos spent two months at York before being released with five appearances to his name.[17]
Clarke Carlisle
Clarke Carlisle made 14 appearances for York in 2012.
Ben Gibson
Ben Gibson appeared in the2012 FA Trophy final and the2012 Conference Premier play-off final while onloan fromMiddlesbrough.[18]
Chris Iwelumo
Chris Iwelumo scored 3 goals in 16 appearances while on loan fromStoke City.[6]
Brian Joy
Brian Joy joined York after a spell in the United States, but was released after playing in 22 matches.[19]
Richard Pacquette
Richard Pacquette had a reputation as a cup specialist, scoring important goals in theFA Cup andFA Trophy againstCrewe Alexandra andNewport County respectively.[20]
Nick Pope
On-loanCharlton AthleticgoalkeeperNick Pope was influential in York reaching the2014 League Two play-offs.[21]
Mark Prudhoe
GoalkeeperMark Prudhoe conceded five goals in two matches while on loan at York from Stoke.[22]
