TheWashington Commanders are a professionalAmerican football franchise based in theWashington metropolitan area. They are members of theEast division in theNational Football Conference (NFC) of theNational Football League (NFL). The Commanders were founded in1932 as theBoston Braves, named after thelocal baseball franchise.[1] The franchise changed its name the following year to the Redskins and moved toWashington, D.C. in1937.[1] In2020, the team retired the Redskins name afterlongstanding controversies surrounding it and briefly played as the Washington Football Team before becoming the Commanders in2022.[1]
The team'sflagship station isWBIG-FM (Big 100.3), having been selected as the team's broadcast partner after following a partnership withiHeartMedia in 2022.[2] The team's previous longtime broadcast home was previouslyWTEM, by virtue of previously being owned byRed Zebra Broadcasting, a group co-owned by Snyder.[3]
