Current senators

Texas was admitted to theUnited States on December 29, 1845, and elects itsU.S. senators toclass 1 and class 2. The state's current senators are RepublicansJohn Cornyn (serving since 2002) andTed Cruz (serving since 2013). A total of 27Democrats, 7Republicans, and 1Liberal Republican have served or are serving as U.S. senators from Texas.Morris Sheppard was Texas's longest-serving senator (1913–1941).
