Georgia (country) – country in theCaucasus region ofEurasia, located atthe crossroads ofWestern Asia andEastern Europe. After a briefperiod of independence following theRussian Revolution of 1917, Georgia wasoccupied bySoviet Russia in 1921, becoming theGeorgian Soviet Socialist Republic and part of theSoviet Union. After independence in 1991,post-communist Georgia suffered fromcivil unrest and economic crisis for most of the 1990s. This lasted until theRose Revolution of 2003, after which the new government introduced democratic and economic reforms.^[1]
