TheChurch of the East was the earliest form ofChristianity in India, as adopted by theSt Thomas Christians of theMalabar region (present-dayKerala) from at least the third century, and possibly much earlier.[a][2] This diversified into different churches over time. Later, from the 17th century, theCatholic andEastern Orthodox Churches, andProtestant denominations were introduced, brought by European missionaries and colonisers.
