Incricket, afive-wicket haul (also known as a "five–for" or "fifer")[1] refers to abowler taking five or morewickets in a singleinnings. There have been 16 instances of a bowler taking a five-wicket haul inAsia Cup games.[2][a] The Asia Cup is an eitherOne Day International format (50 overs) andTwenty20 Internationalcricket format (20 overs) tournament organised by theAsian Cricket Council,[3] a subordinate of theInternational Cricket Council (ICC).[4] Originally started as a biennial tournament in 1984, it has since been organised 16 times as ofthe latest edition in 2023.[b][a]

The first five-wicket haul in the tournament was taken by India'sArshad Ayub in the1988 tournament—he took five wickets for 21runs against Pakistan. In the1995 edition, Pakistan'sAaqib Javed took five wickets for 19 runs against India.[2] These twobowling figures feature in the "Top 100 ODI bowling performances of all time", a list compiled and released by theWisden Cricketers' Almanack in 2002.[6] No five-wicket hauls were taken in the1990–91,2000 and2004 tournaments.[2]

TheSri Lankans lead the list with nine five-wicket hauls—Ajantha Mendis andLasith Malinga are the only bowlers to have taken more than one five-wicket haul in the tournament's history.[7] The former achieved the feat two times, both in2008, while the latter has done it three times—once in the2010 tournament and two times in 2014. Mendis' six wickets for 13 runs against India in the final of the 2008 edition is the best by any bowler across all tournaments.India'sBhuvneshwar Kumar is the only bowler to have five-wicket haul in T20 Asia Cup.
