Lissemys is agenus of softshellturtles in thesubfamilyCyclanorbinae of thefamilyTrionychidae. The genus is indigenous to southernAsia.
The genusLissemys contains three extantspecies which are recognized as being valid.[1]
Severalextinctfossil species have been described for this genus, such asLissemys piramensisPrasad, 1974, fromPiram Island,India, but these are largely considerednomen dubia.[3][4] However, the extant Indian flapshell turtle (L. punctata) is known from fossils from as early as theMiocene.[5]
Nota bene: Abinomial authority in parentheses indicates that the species was originally described in a genus other thanLissemys.
