TheLippe Uplands (German:Lipper Bergland, pronounced[ˈlɪpɐˈbɛʁkˌlant]ⓘ, orLippisches Bergland[ˈlɪpɪʃəs-]) is a range of hills inOstwestfalen-Lippe within the administrative district ofDetmold in the German state ofNorth Rhine-Westphalia.
The Lippe Uplands are part of theWeser Uplands and are delineated by the riverWerre in the west and theWeser in the north and east. To the south the Lippe Uplands merge into theEgge Hills and theOberwälder Land. The landscape has sharp variations in relief: rounded peaks (Kuppen) alternate with steep ridges, and flat depressions with hills dissected by valleys. Three larger rivers - the Weser, Werre andBega, cut deeply into the terrain, the Lippe Uplands dropping away down into their valleys. The highest elevation is theKöterberg at 495.8 metres (1,627 ft).
The woods are dominated by stands ofbeech andoak. The agricultural land is almost exclusively used forarable farming. Rare and protected animals and plants are found along the partly, almost natural river courses. Some of the rivers are therefore underenvironmental protection.
