TheLincoln Hills extend along theMississippi River inMissouri, starting about 40 miles (64 km) northwest ofSt. Louis and extending toHannibal. They are located roughly betweenHighway 61 andHighway 79 inLincoln,Pike,Ralls andMarion counties. The Lincoln Hills, locally referred to as 'knobs', may have partially escaped the most recentglaciation asnunataks during thePleistocene. In geology and biology, they more resemble the rugged and forested hills of theOzarks than the rolling plains of northern Missouri. The limestone bedrock has formed bluffs, glades, caves, springs, and sinkholes. Exposed rocks range in age fromOrdovician toMississippian.
Cuivre River State Park is located within the Lincoln Hills northeast ofTroy inLincoln County.
