Lin Hsi-yao (Chinese:林錫耀;pinyin:Lín Xíyào;Pe̍h-ōe-jī:Lîm Sek-iāu; born 25 December[citation needed] 1961) is a Taiwanese politician. He was the firstVice Premier ofTaiwan under theTsai Ing-wen government and theLin cabinet. He served as thesecretary-general of theDemocratic Progressive Party from 2012 to 2014 and 2020 to 2022, he resigned the office with theincumbent chairwomanTsai Ing-wen after the party's poor performance in thelocal elections in 2022. He had also served as theActing Magistrate ofTaipei County, Deputy Magistrate of Taipei County, andMinister without Portfolio of theExecutive Yuan.
Lin studiedcivil engineering atNational Taiwan University, where he earned a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in the subject in 1983 and 1990, respectively.[1][2]

On 7 April 2016,Premier-designateLin Chuan appointed Lin Hsi-yao to the position of vice premier.[3] Lin Hsi-yao resigned in September 2017, and was shortly afterward presented with anOrder of Brilliant Star.[4]
Lin later worked on Tsai Ing-wen's 2020 presidential campaign.[5] She won a second term, after which Lin was named secretary-general of theDemocratic Progressive Party.[6]
