Lily Postlethwaite (/ˈpɒsəlweɪt/POSS-əl-wayt;[1] born 29 October 2001) is anAustralian rules footballer playing forBrisbane in theAFL Women's competition (AFLW).
Postlethwaite was raised on a farm in the northern Brisbane suburb ofCaboolture, Queensland.[2]
Postlethwaite started her sporting career playingOztag, the Australian variation oftag rugby, and started playing Australian rules football only at the age of 12.[3] In 2014 she won themost valuable player award for Oztag's 13 Girls Division.[4] Postlethwaite played forMoreton Bay Lions and won the under-15 divisionbest and fairest in 2016.[5] Postlethwaite played forMaroochydore in theAFL Queensland Women's League (QWAFL).[6] In the 2019 season she won the QWAFL Rising Star Award.[7] During 2019, Postlethwaite also played for theBrisbane Lions Academy team.[8] Postlethwaite represented Queensland in theAFL Women's Under 18 Championships. In the2018 AFL Women's Under 18 Championships, she was selected for the All-Australian team.[9][10] In the2019 AFL Women's Under 18 Championships she led the team as captain[11] and was selected once again for the All-Australian team.[12]
Postlethwaite was drafted byBrisbane with the third pick in the2019 AFL Women's draft.[13] She made her debut in Brisbane's opening round game againstAdelaide atHickey Park on 8 February 2020.[14]
Postlethwaite is fromCaboolture inQueensland and grew up supportingBrisbane Lions.[15] She grew up on a farm and used the horse track for some unorthodox training and conditioning while at home.[16]
