TheLi Qiang government is the 14th and current State Council of China since March 2023, under theLi Qiang premiership. It succeeded theLi Keqiang government.[1] Premier Li is ranked only second toGeneral Secretary of the Chinese Communist PartyXi Jinping among 7 members of the20thPolitburo Standing Committee, the top decision-making body of theChinese Communist Party (CCP).

During the1st Session of the14th National People's Congress in March 2023, Li Qiang was appointed by President Xi Jinping to replaceLi Keqiang asPremier of the State Council, China'shead of government, according to the approval of theNational People's Congress.

According to theconstitution of China, thePresident nominates the Premier of the State Council, and the Premier nominates theVice-Premiers,State Councilors andMinisters. The nominations were approved by National People's Congressvoting.[2]
