Lewisham North is aparliamentary constituency inLewisham,London which returns oneMember of Parliament (MP) to theHouse of Commons of theParliament of the United Kingdom. It was re-established at the2024 general election by the2023 periodic review of Westminster constituencies, primarily formed from the abolished seat ofLewisham Deptford.[2] The seat is currently represented byVicky Foxcroft ofLabour.

A previous creation of the seat existed from1950 until it was abolished for theFebruary 1974 general election.

Constituency profile

The seat covers the densely populated areas of Lewisham, Deptford and New Cross which have undergone regeneration in the 21st century. New Cross has a substantial student population atGoldsmiths. Brockley and Blackheath are more affluent suburbs with larger houses. Incomes and house prices are high for the UK but average within Greater London.[3]

The Metropolitan Borough of Lewisham wards of Blackheath and Church Lee, Ladywell, Lewisham Park, Lewisham Village, Manor Lee, and South Lee.

The re-established constituency succeedsLewisham Deptford, exceptCrofton Park ward, which is in the new constituency ofLewisham West and East Dulwich.Blackheath ward was added fromLewisham East. Following the2023 periodic review of Westminster constituencies, which came into effect for the2024 general election, the constituency is composed of the following electoral wards of theLondon Borough of Lewisham:

  • Blackheath, Brockley, Deptford, Evelyn, Ladywell, Lewisham Central, New Cross Gate, and Telegraph Hill.[4]
