Lewis Christopher Cocking[1] (born 1992) is a BritishConservative Party politician who has been theMember of Parliament forBroxbourne since the2024 general election. He was the leader of theBorough of Broxbourne Council from 2019 to 2024.[2][3][4]
Cocking was raised inHoddesdon, studying atThe John Warner School. He graduated from theUniversity of Portsmouth with a degree in geography.
Cocking was deputypolice and crime commissionerfor Hertfordshire from 2021 to 2024. Before this, he was a policy, communications and funding manager forEngie.[5][6]
Cocking was first elected toBroxbourne Council in May 2016, representing Wormley and Turnford ward.[7] He became leader of the Council in May 2019,[8] and aHertfordshire County Councillor for Hoddesdon North in 2021.[9] Cocking is also a governor for Wormley Primary School,[10] which he attended as a child.
At the2024 general election, Cocking was electedMember of Parliament (MP) forBroxbourne,[11] with 15,810 (36.8%) votes and a majority of 2,858 over the second place Labour candidate.[12] On 19 July 2024, he made hismaiden speech in theHouse of Commons during a debate on Planning, the Green Belt and Rural Affairs.[13]
