Leslie Ernest Devonshire (13 June 1926 – 19 December 2012)[citation needed] was an English professionalfootballer who made 127 appearances inThe Football League forChester andCrystal Palace between 1950 and 1955. His son,Alan Devonshire, was capped byEngland.[1]
Devonshire played as awinger and began his career withQueens Park Rangers and thenBrentford without making league appearances for either.[1] After a spell with non-leagueWealdstone, Devonshire joinedFootball League Third Division North sideChester in time for the1950–51 season. Devonshire missed just two first-team games during the campaign for Chester, marking his home debut with a goal in a 3–1 win overOldham Athletic on 23 August 1950.[2]
He then returned south and joinedCrystal Palace, where he spent four years involved in the first-team.[1] This was followed by a spell playing for non-league sidesMargate andCanterbury City until 1960.[1]
Devonshire lived inPerivale,Middlesex in his last years.[citation needed] He died on 19 December 2012, leaving 11 grandchildren.[citation needed]
