Leon Rooke,CM (born September 11, 1934) is a Canadiannovelist. He was born inRoanoke Rapids,North Carolina in the United States. Educated at theUniversity of North Carolina, he moved to Canada in 1969. He now lives inToronto,Ontario.

Rooke helped to found theEden Mills Writers' Festival in 1989.[1] In 2002, Rooke championedThe Stone Angel byMargaret Laurence in that year's edition ofCanada Reads. Rooke's work also appears inBlackbird: an online journal of literature and the arts.

In 2007, he was made a Member of theOrder of Canada.[2]
