Leo Tover,A.S.C. (December 6, 1902 – December 30, 1964) was an Americancinematographer, twice nominated forAcademy Awards for his work onThe Heiress (1949) andHold Back the Dawn (1941). His other credits include the silent version ofThe Great Gatsby as well asThe Day the Earth Stood Still andPayment on Demand, both released in 1951.
He was born in New Haven, Connecticut. DuringWorld War II, Tover served in theU.S. ArmySignal Corps Photographic Center alongside fellow cinematographersGerald Hirschfeld andStanley Cortez. He died in Los Angeles, California.
