Lena Düpont (born 30 April 1986) is a German politician of theChristian Democratic Union who has been serving as aMember of the European Parliament forGermany since2019.[1]
Düpont was born inDortmund and grew up in theGifhorn district. In 2005 she finished theHumboldt Gymnasium, after which she studiedpolitical science andjournalism at theUniversity of Erlangen–Nuremberg. As a legislative advisor, she worked, among others, forRenate Sommer in Brussels and then forEwa Klamt,Eckhard Pols andIngrid Pahlmann in Berlin.[2]
Düpont has been aMember of the European Parliament since the2019 European elections. She has since been serving on theCommittee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs. In this capacity, she had been the parliament'srapporteur on a 2020 law establishing a common border procedure for international protection.[3] In 2021, she also joined the parliament's working group onFrontex, led byRoberta Metsola.[4] In addition to her committee assignments, Düpont was part of the Parliament's delegation to the EU-Montenegro Stabilisation and Association Parliamentary Committee.[5]
Since 2021, Düpont has been serving as deputy chairwoman of the CDU inLower Saxony, under the leadership of chairmanBernd Althusmann.[6] She was nominated by her party as delegate to theFederal Convention for the purpose of electing thePresident of Germany in2022.[7]
She was reelected as aMember of the European Parliament in2024, where she currently serves as a member of theCommittee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs and substitute on theCommittee on Agriculture and Rural Development.[8]
