Rone (Swedish pronunciation:[ˈrûːnɛ])[3] is a populated area, asocken (not to be confused withparish), on the Swedish island ofGotland.[4] It comprises the same area as theadministrative Rone District, established on 1 January 2016.[5]
Rone is the name of thesocken as well as the district. It is also the name of the small village surrounding themedievalRone Church,[6] sometimes referred to asRone kyrkby. It is situated in the southeast part of Gotland.[7] The village and harborRonehamn is on the southeast coast of Rone.[8]
As of 2019[update], Rone Church belongs to Alva-Hemse-Roneparish in Sudretspastorat, along with the churches inAlva andHemse.[9][10]
One of theasteroids in theasteroid belt,8680 Rone, isnamed after this place.[11]
There are severalBronze Agecairns in Rone, includingUggarde rojr, the largest cairn on Gotland. Another one isLejstu rojr, which is also an area of cairns, walls andgrave fields.[12][13] Two of theasteroids in theasteroid belt,10807 Uggarde and10810 Lejsturojr, arenamed after these cairns.[14][15]
