It was formerly placed in thegenusHeterophasia but is now the onlyspecies in the genusLeioptila.[2]
It is found from the Himalayas to south-central Vietnam.[3]Its naturalhabitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowlandforests and subtropical or tropical moistmontane forests.
