Thelegislative districts of Guimaras are the representations of theprovince ofGuimaras in thevarious national legislatures of thePhilippines. The province is currently represented in thelower house of theCongress of the Philippines through itslone congressional district.
Prior to gaining its separate representation,Guimaras was asub-province ofIloilo and was last represented as part ofIloilo's 2nd district in theHouse of Representatives from 1987 to 1995 and in earliernational legislatures from 1907 to 1972.[1] It was also formerly included in the multi-memberIloilo's at-large district for theMalolos Congress from 1898 to 1899 and for theRegular Batasang Pambansa from 1984 to 1986 and the multi-memberRegion VI's at-large district for theInterim Batasang Pambansa from 1978 to 1984.[2]
Guimaras was given its own representation ahead of the1995 Philippine House of Representatives elections following its conversion into a regular province under the 1991 Local Government Code (Republic Act No. 7160) which was ratified in a 1992 plebiscite concurrent withthat year's general election.[3]
