Lee Benson (born August 25, 1948)[1] is a sportswriter andcolumnist for theDeseret News.[2][3] He has covered at least nineOlympic Games for the paper and has written columns onMormon issues. He has also co-authored a book with James W. Parkinson about Americanprisoners of war of theJapanese duringWorld War II and their attempts to obtain reparations.
Benson is the author ofAnd They Came to Pass, a book about Brigham Young University's string of successful quarterbacks. He co-authoredIn Plain Sight: The Startling Truth Behind the Elizabeth Smart investigation with Tom Smart,[4][5] and co-authoredBilly Casper's 2012 autobiography,The Big Three And Me, with Casper and James Parkinson.[6]
Benson is a 1976 graduate ofBrigham Young University. He has been sports editor of theDeseret News and as of the beginning of 2012 was a columnist for the news who wrote on metro-Salt Lake City issues.
Benson was born inSandy, Utah.[1] His twin brother,Dee Benson, was a former chiefjudge for theUnited States District Court for theState of Utah.[2]
