TheLearned Council[3] (Persian:هیئت علمیه,romanized: Heyʿat-e Elmīyeh) was apolitical group ofclerics in the3rd Parliament, led byHassan Modarres.[1]
According toTouraj Daryaee, it did not consider itself aparty and was a group of "hardlinerightists particularly opposed to theDemocrats".[2] The group opposed the policy of centralization advocated by the government,secularization of penal code,property tax,conscription andwomen's suffrage.[2][3]
