Club Social Deportivo León de Huánuco, more commonly known asLeón de Huánuco, is a professional Peruvianfootball club based in the city ofHuánuco. It is historically the biggest football club of Huánuco city. Founded in 1946, the club plays in theCopa Peru which is the fourth tier of Peruvian football.
León de Huánuco was founded on 29 June, 1946.
The club occupies the position 14 in the accumulated table of championships of theFirst Division.
In the1972 Copa Perú, León de Huánuco was runner-up and qualified to the1973 Torneo Descentralizado.
In the1980 Copa Perú, León de Huánuco qualified to the1981 Torneo Descentralizado, when defeated Comercial Aguas Verdes.
In the2000 Copa Perú, León de Huánuco qualified to the National Stage, but was eliminated byCoronel Bolognesi in the semifinals.
In the2001 Copa Perú, León de Huánuco qualified to the National Stage, but was eliminated byDeportivo Bolito in the semifinals.
In the2002 Copa Perú, León de Huánuco qualified to the National Stage, but was eliminated byAtlético Universidad in the semifinals.
In the2006 Copa Perú, León de Huánuco qualified to the National Stage, but was eliminated by Sport Huamanga in the round of 16.
On December 12, 2010, at the Estadio Monumental, Leon de Huanuco was defeated byUniversidad San Martín de Porres in Peru's two-legged final that gave USMP the domestic championship.

León de Huánuco's home stadium is theEstadio Heraclio Tapia. The club shares the stadium with city rivalsAlianza Universidad, who participate in thePeruvian Primera División. The stadium has a seating capacity of 25,000. When León de Huánuco was the dominant team, the stadium featured the colors of the club. However, after the rise of Alianza Universidad, the stadium has since been changed to feature the colors of that club, which are blue and red.
León de Huánuco has had a long-standing rivalry withAlianza Universidad. However, the rivalry is not played much, as the teams are in separate leagues.
