Lawrence Sheldon Strulović[a] (born 11 July 1959), commonly known asLawrence Stroll, is a Canadian businessman who is part-owner and executive chairman ofAston Martin, as well as the owner oftheir Formula One team.[2] According toForbes, he has a net worth ofUS$3.9 billion, as of March 2024[update].[3]

Early life

Lawrence Sheldon Strulović was born on 11 July 1959 inMontreal, Quebec to aJewish family as the son of fashion importer Leo Strulovitch.[4][5][6]

Career

Stroll's father broughtPierre Cardin fashionwear andRalph Lauren clothing to Canada.[7]Stroll later took the Ralph Lauren brand to Europe.[7]

Along with Hong Kong investorSilas Chou, Stroll invested in clothing designersTommy Hilfiger andMichael Kors, and the pair largely contributed to the brands' growth to global prominence.[8][9] Stroll's company, Sportswear Holdings, sold the last of its stake in these businesses in 2014.[7] During the 2000s, Chou and Stroll also invested inAsprey & Garrard.[9][10]

From 2000[11] until August 2022,[12] Stroll owned theCircuit Mont-Tremblant racing circuit, in Quebec'sLaurentian Mountains.[13]

In 2014, Stroll took ownership of thePrema Racing team in the light of his sonLance racing for the outfit inFormula 4 and theFIA Formula 3 European Championship.[14][15][16] Stroll vetoed multiple driver moves in connection with Prema; he preventedGeorge Russell from racing for the team in the2014 Formula Renault 2.0 Alps Series and vetoed the move ofLando Norris to the team ahead of the2018 Formula 2 season.[17][18] The team was sold to Swiss company DC Racing Solutions, managed in part by Deborah Mayer andClaudio Schiavoni, in 2021.[19]

In August 2018, Stroll led a consortium of investors in buying the assets of the defunctForce IndiaFormula One team.[20] RenamedRacing Point Force India, and as a new team officially, they re-entered midway through the2018 Formula One season and achieved 7th position in the Constructors' Championship.[21] For the2019 season, the team name and entrant was changed once again toRacing Point F1 Team, with Stroll's sonLance driving one of the cars, finishing in 7th position in the Constructors' Championship once again.[22]

On 31 January 2020, it was announced that Stroll led the Yew Tree Investments consortium to invest £182 million intoAston Martin, in return for a 16.7% stake in the company.[23] Racing Point F1 Team was re-branded as theAston Martin F1 Team in2021.[24]

Personal life

Stroll is married to Raquel Stroll (née Diniz).[1] He was previously married to Belgian-born Claire-Anne Stroll (née Callens). Lawrence and Claire-Anne have two children.[3] Their sonLance Stroll is a racing driver who is currently competing in Lawrence's team inFormula One.[25] Their daughter isChloe Stroll,[26][27] married since May 2023 toScotty James.[28]

Stroll has a large car collection mostly consisting ofFerraris, including a 1963Ferrari 250 GTO, a 1958Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa, and a 1967Ferrari 330 P4.[29][30] He used to own the Ferrari dealership ofQuebec. He also owns other cars such as a 1996McLaren F1 and aFord GT.[31][32]
