Lauren Elkin (born 1978) is a French and American writer, essayist and translator. She is known for her book,Art Monsters: Unruly Bodies in Feminist Art[1][2] andFlâneuse, which was among the list of notable books byThe New York Times Book Review and a finalist for thePEN/Diamonstein-Spielvogel Award for the Art of the Essay.[3]

Her work has appeared inThe New York Times,Granta,Le Monde, andFrieze. She was the English translator ofSimone de Beauvoir'sThe Inseparables.[4][5][6][7]

Her debut novel,Scaffolding, was published in June 2024 in the U.K.[8] and September 2024 in the U.S.[9]

Early and personal life

A native New Yorker, Elkin lived inParis, France for 20 years and is now based in London. Elkin isJewish.[10]
