Laura Eveliina Birn (born 25 April 1981)[1] is a Finnish film and TV actress.

Early life and education

Birn was born inHelsinki, Finland. She completed her master's degree fromHelsinki Theatre Academy in 2008.[1]

Career

She is most famous for her appearances in the2003 filmHelmiä ja sikoja alongsideMikko Leppilampi and most notably in her role in the2005 filmLupaus. She has tackled roles in historical dramas, lighthearted comedies, and thought-provoking art-house films with equal finesse.[2]

In the United States, she is best known for her supporting role in the Finnish filmJoulutarina (English title:Christmas Story) andA Walk Among the Tombstones.

Her performance in the 2012 filmPurge earned her a nomination for aSatellite Award for Best Actress.[3] In 2021 she began playing the role of robotEto Demerzel in the seriesFoundation. The second season was released in 2023.[4][5] Filming of the third season is almost ready in May 2024.[6]

In 2024, Finnish weekly news magazineSuomen Kuvalehti wrote, sourcing publicly available tax records, that Birn is the most highly-paid Finnish actor or actress of all time.[7]
