Larry Seivers (born March 30, 1954)[1] is an American formerfootball player who was awide receiver for theTennessee Volunteers. He was a consensusAll-American in 1975 and 1976. He was selected by theSeattle Seahawks of theNational Football League (NFL) in the fourth round of the1977 NFL draft.
Born inClinton, Tennessee,[2] Seivers playedhigh school football andbasketball atClinton High School.[3]
Seivers played for theTennessee Volunteers from 1974 to 1976. He accumulated 117 receptions, 1,924 receiving yards and eight receiving touchdowns in his career. At the time he was the University of Tennessee's all-time leader in receptions and receiving yards.[4] He was a two time consensus All-American in 1975 and 1976.[5][6] Seivers scored the only touchdown of the 1974Liberty Bowl, catching an 11-yard pass fromRandy Wallace, in a 7-3 victory overMaryland.[7] He was a captain on the1976 Tennessee Volunteers football team. He was selected as anSEC Football Legend in 2005.[8] Seivers was inducted into the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame in 2013.[9]
Sievers was drafted by theSeattle Seahawks of the NFL with the 111th pick in the1977 NFL draft.[10] He was traded to theTampa Bay Buccaneers on August 30, 1977, for a fourth round1979 NFL draft choice.[11] The draft pick received by the Seahawks was given to theBuffalo Bills as voluntary compensation forAhmad Rashad signing in 1976.[12]
