Lawrence A. Beil[1] (born 1960 or 1961 (age 64–65), also known asLarry Beil is an Americansportscaster andnews anchor[2]
From 1996 to 1998, he was an anchor onSportsCenter, the flagship program ofESPN. Beil, who graduated from theUniversity of Hawaiʻi in 1982,[3] introduced a new catch phrase after showing a home run: "Aloha means goodbye." He also appeared in aThis isSportsCenter ad in which he was introduced by ring announcerMichael Buffer, as if he were about to compete in aboxing match. After leaving ESPN, Beil became the sports director atKGO-TV, theABCO&O inSan Francisco. He is also a sports columnist forYahoo and hosts a Yahoo webcast with formerSeattle Seahawks playerJoe Nash calledSportStream. Prior to his work at ESPN, he was sports anchor and reporter atKTVU Channel 2 inOakland andKGMB Channel 9 inHonolulu, Hawaii. Beil re-joined ESPN as a guest anchor forSportsCenter on August 3, 2016,[4] June 20, 2017 and August 2, 2017.
In 2019, he began hosting the weekly podcastWith Authority alongsideCasey Pratt.[5]
Beil married toHawaiian Airlines flight attendant Sharla Olsen in 1991.[6] The couple have two daughters.[7]
