TheLaos national association football team representsLaos inassociation football and is governed by theLao Football Federation .
As of 2020, Laos has not qualified for theFIFA World Cup ,AFC Asian Cup orAsian Games .[ 5] [ 6] Since making its appearance at the1995 Southeast Asian Games , Laos has competed in the inaugural1996 AFF Championship , drawing againstVietnam 1–1 and winning againstCambodia 1–0. In 1995, Laos beatBrunei andPhilippines and two years later in the1997 Southeast Asian Games held in Jakarta, it beatMalaysia 1–0 andPhilippines 4–1. In the qualifying preliminary rounds for the2004 Asian Cup , Laos beatBangladesh 2–1. In the2006 FIFA World Cup qualification , it qualified for thesecond round as a lucky loser afterGuam andNepal both withdrew from the tournament, and proceeded to lose all its games (againstQatar ,Iran andJordan ).[ 7] It advanced to thesecond round of the2014 FIFA World Cup qualification for the2014 FIFA World Cup , after defeatingCambodia 8–6 on aggregate. In the second round, it lost toChina 13–3 on aggregate. It has defeated Brunei, Cambodia, Philippines,Singapore and Malaysia. Its first appearance in a continental tournament was in 2014, when it played at the2014 AFC Challenge Cup .[ 8] [ 9]
