Landrecies (French pronunciation:[lɑ̃dʁəsi]ⓘ;Dutch:Landeschie) is acommune in theNorddepartment in northernFrance.[3]
In 1543, Landrecies wasbesieged by English andImperial forces, who were repulsed by the French defenders. In 1794, it wasbesieged byDutch forces, who captured it. It was the site of a skirmish between theBritish I Corps underDouglas Haig and theGerman First Army on 25 August 1914, that resulted in the death ofArcher Windsor-Clive, the firstfirst-class cricketer to fall inWorld War I.
