Lala Mehmed Pasha (died 28 November 1595) was anOttoman military commander andGrand Vizier of theOttoman Empire under the reign ofMehmed III.[1]

Born inGölmarmara in westernAnatolia, he became alala (tutor) to the SultanMurad III and then to his sonMehmed III, hence his nickname. After having married the daughter of Mehmed III'sdaye (wet nurse) Halima Khatun, Mehmed Pasha rose to serve as Grand Vizier in 1595, the first year of Mehmed III's reign, although only for a matter of a few days before he suddenly died.[1][2] His lineage continued for centuries, coming all the way toHusein Avni Pasha.
