Lala, officially theMunicipality of Lala (Cebuano:Lungsod sa Lala;Maranao:Inged a Lala;Tagalog:Bayan ng Lala), is amunicipality in theprovince ofLanao del Norte,Philippines. According to the 2024 census, it has a population of 75,015 people.[5]
The town is famous for its specialized crab dishes and its Alimango festival, which is dedicated to its crab produce.[6]
Before American colonization, Lala was formerly a part of the State of Unayan,Confederate States of Lanao based from ancient boundaries.[7]
Lala was created fromTubod through Executive Order No. 208 signed by PresidentElpidio Quirino on March 22, 1949.[8]
The Municipality of Lala is geographically situated in a vast plain within the Kapatagan Valley, with the area of 140.25 square kilometres (54.15 sq mi) along the coast ofPanguil Bay. It is located about 14 kilometres (8.7 mi) from the municipality ofTubod, the seat of the provincial government, and 67.5 kilometres (41.9 mi) south-west ofIligan City, the commercial center of the province. It is geographically bounded on the north-west by Panguil Bay, on the north-east by the municipality ofBaroy, on the south by the municipality ofKapatagan and on the east by the municipality ofSalvador.
Lala is politically subdivided into 27barangays. Each barangay consists ofpuroks while some havesitios.
