Lake Rosebery is a man-made waterreservoir located in theWest Coast region ofTasmania, Australia. The lake is situated within the northern part of Tasmania'sWest Coast Range and is fed by the dammedMackintosh andMurchison rivers. The reservoir is owned byHydro Tasmania.
TheBastyan Dam across thePieman River was built by theHydro-Electric Commission in 1983. The dam created a 123,520-megalitre (4,362×10^6 cu ft) reservoir, called Lake Rosebery, with a surface area ranging from 744 hectares (1,840 acres), drawn from a catchment area of 1,397 square kilometres (539 sq mi).[2]
The lake is located near the village ofTullah.
The divertedEmu Bay Railway line and theWee Georgie Wood Railway line run close to the lake.
In January 2025, 5,000 to 4,000 litres of oil entered the reservoir after a tank on private property leaked in heavy rain.[3]
