Lady Gabriella Marina Alexandra Ophelia Kingston (néeWindsor; born 23 April 1981) is a British writer and contributing editor.[3] She is the daughter ofPrince andPrincess Michael of Kent. At her birth she was 18th in the line ofsuccession to the British throne; she is currently 57th.[4] As a great-grandchild ofKing George V andQueen Mary, she is a second cousin ofKing Charles III.

Early life and education

Lady Gabriella was born on 23 April 1981 atSt Mary's Hospital, London. She has an elder brother,Frederick, born on 6 April 1979. She wasbaptised on 8 June 1981 at theChapel Royal,St James's Palace, London.[5][6] Lady Gabriella'sgodparents wereConstantine II of Greece;Mariano Hugo, Prince of Windisch-Graetz;Marina Ogilvy;Princess Antonia, Marchioness of Douro; andLady Elizabeth Shakerley.[6][7] She was educated atGodstowe School[8] andDowne House School[1] inCold Ash, Berkshire.[9] In May 2004, Gabriella graduated fromBrown University inProvidence, Rhode Island, with aBA degree inComparative Literature andHispanic studies.[1] In 2012, she earned anMPhil degree inSocial Anthropology fromLinacre College, Oxford.[1][10]

Career

Lady Gabriella works as a writer and contributing editor.[11] She contributes toThe London Magazine amongst other publications.[12]

She is a board director of thePlaying for Change Foundation, a global music and arts education nonprofit. She worked with Latin American companies after living in the region,[13] teaching English inRio de Janeiro and producing music events inBuenos Aires.[14] She undertook a research project with El Colegio del Cuerpo in Colombia.[15] She also worked for the brand company Branding Latin America as an arts and travel director.[16]

In 2020, as a singer-songwriter, she released two songs, "Out of Blue"[17] and "Bam Bam",[18] to raise money for a charity. She also sang "Put the Sea",[19] "Half"[20] and "This Morning".[21]

In 2024, she helped thePrincess of Wales plan the annual Together at Christmas carols concert atWestminster Abbey.[22]

Personal life

For three years in the early 2000s, she dated journalistAatish Taseer. The two met when she was an undergraduate at Brown University and he was a graduate ofAmherst College working forTime magazine.[14] In 2018, he wrote a controversial article about his relationship with Lady Gabriella and the royal family forVanity Fair.[14][23]

Lady Gabriella's engagement toDean Close School alumnus andBristol University graduate Thomas Henry Robin Kingston (22 June 1978 – 25 February 2024) was announced byBuckingham Palace on 19 September 2018.[24][12] He was part of the diplomatic missions unit of theForeign Office and between 2003 and 2006 was stationed inBaghdad, where he served as a project manager for the International Centre for Reconciliation.[16] Upon his return to Britain, he pursued a career in financing, assuming[25] different positions such as equity analyst forSchroders, managing director of Voltan Capital Management, and director of Devonport Capital.[16] Thomas and Lady Gabriella became engaged on the Isle ofSark in August 2018.[26] The wedding took place atSt George's Chapel, Windsor Castle, on 18 May 2019[27] and was attended byQueen Elizabeth II andPrince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.[28] The bride wore a Luisa Beccaria design.[29]

Her husband died on 25 February 2024, aged 45, from a self-inflicted gunshot while under the adverse effects of antidepressants.[30]
