Ladjak (meaning "sail" inChamorro) was a general term referring to both sails woven frompandanus leaves and tosingle-outrigger canoes ("proas") fitted with a sail. These vessels include the very largesakman (usually known as "flying proas" in historical records), the slightly smallerlelek, the medium-sizedduding, and the smallduduli. It excludes thepanga and thegalaide’, which were not fitted with sails.[1]
