Labiodental ejective affricate
p̪fʼ

Alabiodental ejective affricate is a type ofconsonantal sound. The symbol in theInternational Phonetic Alphabet that represents this sound is ⟨p̪fʼ⟩.

Features

[edit]

Features of a labiodental ejective affricate:

  • Itsmanner of articulation isaffricate, which means it is produced by first stopping the airflow entirely, then allowing air flow through a constricted channel at the place of articulation, causing turbulence.
  • Itsplace of articulation islabiodental, which means it is articulated with the lowerlip and the upperteeth.
  • Itsphonation is voiceless, which means it is produced without vibrations of the vocal cords.
  • It is anoral consonant, which means that air is not allowed to escape through the nose.
  • Because the sound is not produced with airflow over the tongue, themedianlateral dichotomy does not apply.
  • Theairstream mechanism isejective (glottalic egressive), which means the air is forced out by pumping theglottis upward.
