Lapa (Armenian:Լապա) orlapas (Greek:λαπάς) is a kind ofriceporridge orgruel eaten in theBalkans,Levant, andMiddle East. It is made of justrice,water, andsalt and has the consistency of a thick soup.
InGreek cuisine, it is used as a remedy fordiarrhea, served with lemon juice.[1]
The dictionary of theTürk Dil Kurumu considers it aloanword from Pontic Greek ("Rumca").[2]
Robert Dankoff gives it anArmenian origin: լափlap’ 'watery food for dogs, pap for babies'.[3]
